At Sibertswold we have many celebrations and events which reflect and embody our overt Christian character.

Many of them follow the Anglican calendar and others are key events where the children and adults reflect on aspects of their life and identity, their place in our community or society or ways in which they can affect others’ lives. Below are just a flavour of what we have done this year so far.

Mars Welcome to Sibertswold

On Monday 24th September our Chair of Governors and member of St Andrew's Church – Richard Webster – led a special ‘Welcome to Sibertswold’ service at St Andrews Church for our new Mars children and their parents, in order that they become familiar with St Andrews Church which will play an important part in their time at Sibertswold.

Day of Reflection

During our focus week (Oct 15th-19th) each class had the opportunity to go to church to spend time reflecting on our school Bible story ‘The Good Shepherd’. Each class was split into smaller groups and they took part in a carousal of activities which included: singing the song ‘the Lord is my Shepherd’ with Trish Martin (governor), searching for something special with Mr Bird, Reflecting on the Good Shepherd stained glass window with Mrs Bird and prayer with Mrs Restall.

Harvest Festival

On Friday 2nd October we held our annual Harvest Festival service. Children were all asked to bring in food items to support the local food bank. The parents and children were incredibly generous. Each class spent time reflecting on why we celebrate harvest, praying for those who were less fortunate than themselves and thanking God for the gifts he gives us. The generosity is a true reflection of how all the children and their families live out our school Bible story of the Good Shepherd.

Advent service for Year 1 and 2

On Monday 3rd December Rev Stuart led an Advent Service for Pluto and Neptune. The service helped the children to understand and think about the real meaning of Christmas and how we can all prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus and look forward to his return one day.

Carols by Candlelight

On Monday 17th December parents from Venus and Mercury joined us in the hall for Christmas poems read by Venus children and the reenactment of the Christmas Story led by Mercury children. It was an enjoyable evening getting us fully into the Christmas spirit.

Christingle Service

On Tuesday 18th December the hall was lit up by hundreds of candles, the children were led through the very special Christingle service. Each child made their own Christingle, which they brought along to the school hall. They were all very knowledgeable about what each part of it represented. Awe and wonder struck us all as we stood in silence, with our lit candles, reflecting on the hope that Jesus brings to us at this time of the year. We were joined by parents and grandparents.

Carol Service

On Tuesday 18th December in the evening, Jupiter and Saturn along with their parents came to St Andrew’s Church for their carol service. The children read the Christmas story beautifully and sang like angels.

Whole School Carol Service

Wednesday 19th December was the last of the Carol services and it saw the whole of the school fit into St Andrew’s Church. Saturn class led the service really well, with contributions of songs from Mars and Pluto children. Throughout all of our Christmas services the children were able to reflect on the real meaning of Christmas.
